Trauma Therapy Boston

These are very common things that happen after a traumatic event. Many people experience trauma, which means YOU ARE NOT ALONE. It also means that it is treatable. With the help of a PTSD specialist in Boston, you can learn to take control over your life and feel happy once again.

People can get stuck in the cycle of avoidance after a traumatic event. It’s really, really hard to think about what happened, so they tend to do everything they can to NOT think about it. Unfortunately, this is part of the problem that is keeping you from recovering. Online trauma counseling can teach you the skills to process what happened, challenge the thoughts that keep you stuck, and heal from the hurt.

Say Hello to Hannah Brents, LICSW
Boston trauma therapist

First things first, seeking support is so hard when you are moving through the stages of trauma. So, congrats on this first, huge step!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Hannah Brents, and I’m an online trauma therapist. I help millennials and older adults heal from trauma.

Trauma impacts every facet of your life. My experience and training was designed to help you regain control of your life and move through the stages of healing from trauma. Even though life hasn’t turned out as you expected, my goal for our work together is to instill hope for the future.

I understand it may be difficult for you to trust someone with this painful part of your life. I strive to create a non-judgmental space in my therapy sessions where you feel safe to express yourself.

Schedule a complimentary consultation with me today if you’re ready to start your journey through the trauma recovery stages.

Many people with complex PTSD and trauma find it difficult to open up to a therapist because of how trust has been broken before. The possibility of this happening again is scary and overwhelming.

The fact that you are still reading tells me that you are ready to make a change in your life. This change is possible with my support and the structure that trauma therapy can provide.

The first few sessions can be some of the most intimidating because you may think you need to talk the whole time or not know where to start. Not to worry. I will ask you questions and provide feedback as we get to know each other. You will not be alone in the room with me silently nodding along. We will be engaged in a collaborative conversation working towards achieving your treatment goals.

We will begin by learning about PTSD, how it develops, and how PTSD can become chronic. We will identify thoughts that are stuck points and prevent you from recovering. I will teach you how to challenge these thoughts and create new, alternative thoughts that support your healing. We will address the areas of your life that the trauma has most impacted and spend time learning how to show kindness to yourself again, or for the first time.

Throughout your therapy, you will feel more confident, have less inappropriate guilt, and have fewer panic attacks. You will be able to focus on the things that are important to you in life, like relationships, self-care and spirituality, and overall well-being.

How do I know if I have PTSD or not?

There is a whole list of criteria that make up a PTSD diagnosis. You don’t have to know what those are (but if you are reading this, you are probably quite familiar with them!). If you are interested, I have a YouTube video breaking down all of the criteria here

You do not have to have a prior diagnosis of PTSD to receive treatment. The first session is an intake, where we will gather information to make an appropriate diagnosis. A diagnosis is a complicated issue that has its pros and cons. It will not be the primary focus of our treatment, but we will use it as a starting point to determine how to begin.

What is often more important than a diagnosis itself is understanding what’s happening, why, and how to treat it. The goal is to get you feeling better!

Note: You do NOT have to submit this diagnosis to your insurance to become part of your permanent record.
